Anthropic is running a two-week promotion that doubles Claude's usage limits during off-peak hours - from March 13 through March 27, 2026.

How It Works

Outside of weekday peak hours (8 AM - 2 PM Eastern Time), the number of messages users can send within Claude's rolling five-hour usage window is doubled. On weekends, the doubled limits apply all day.

The promotion is automatic. No opt-in required. It covers Free, Pro, Max, and Team plans across web, desktop, mobile, Claude Code, Claude for Excel, and Claude for PowerPoint. Enterprise plans are excluded.

Why Now

The timing isn't coincidental. Claude recently shot to the #1 free app on the App Store after a wave of users migrated from ChatGPT. The catalyst: Anthropic refused to remove AI safety guardrails for the Department of Defense, was labeled a supply chain risk and lost its federal contract. OpenAI signed the DoD deal instead, sparking a user boycott of ChatGPT in favor of Claude.

Anthropic is framing it as "a small thank you to everyone using Claude" - but it's also a smart move to retain the surge of new users who may have been hitting rate limits for the first time.

What It Means

This is the second time Anthropic has run a usage promotion - the first was a holiday event from December 25-31 that covered only paid plans. This round is broader, including free tier users, and comes at a moment when Anthropic has both the attention and the moral high ground.

For developers using Claude Code, the doubled limits during off-peak hours are particularly useful - coding sessions tend to burn through message limits fast, and many developers work outside the 8 AM - 2 PM ET window anyway.
