Google DeepMind and Agile Robots SE announced a strategic research partnership today to accelerate the next generation of autonomous industrial robots. The deal combines Google DeepMind's Gemini Robotics foundation models with the Munich-based company's hardware platform, which already runs in over 20,000 deployments globally.

The Plan

The partnership is structured as a continuous improvement loop. Agile Robots will deploy joint solutions in industrial settings, collect real-world operational data, and feed it back to refine the Gemini Robotics models. Better models then expand what the hardware can do — a classic AI flywheel applied to physical systems.

Initial focus areas are industrial and manufacturing environments: electronics manufacturing, automotive assembly, data centers, and logistics. These sectors share the same profile — high demand for reliable, precise automation with tight tolerances and minimal tolerance for error.

Context

Agile Robots has raised over $270 million in funding and is one of several European robotics companies that have emerged as serious players in the intelligence layer of industrial automation. Google DeepMind has been expanding its Gemini Robotics program with similar hardware partnerships — it opened the program to Boston Dynamics, Apptronik, and Agility Robotics earlier this year. Today's deal adds Agile Robots to that list with a deeper bilateral research structure.
