Aave Seeks 25,000 ETH for rsETH Recovery as Arbitrum Vote Could Release 30,766 ETH
Aave's rsETH response has moved from general relief pledges to a more concrete funding stack, with governance proposals now defining how much capital could come from the protocol itself and from allied ecosystems.
What changed
An Aave governance proposal posted April 24 asks the DAO to contribute 25,000 ETH to the coordinated DeFi United recovery effort. The proposal says the April 18 exploit created an original shortfall of about 163,183 ETH and that, after freezes and expected liquidations, the remaining funding gap is roughly 75,081 ETH.
The same proposal says public commitments from contributors including EtherFi, Lido, Ethena, Ink, BGD Labs, Ernesto, Emilio, and Stani Kulechov total 14,570 ETH so far. Separately, a Mantle forum discussion proposes a credit facility of up to 30,000 ETH for the effort.
A parallel proposal on Arbitrum asks governance to release 30,765.67 ETH frozen by the network's Security Council after the exploit and route those funds into the remediation plan.
Why it matters
The key shift is that the recovery is no longer framed only as emergency coordination. It is becoming a multi-governance capital plan with identifiable treasury asks, pending votes, and a clearer path to restoring rsETH backing.
That still leaves execution risk. Several pieces, including the Arbitrum release and treasury approvals, remain subject to governance outcomes rather than being immediately deployable.
