Amazon Adds Live AI Audio Q&A to Product Pages in Its Shopping App
Amazon has updated its Hear the highlights shopping feature with a new Join the chat mode that lets customers ask follow-up questions about products and receive spoken answers in real time. According to Amazon, the feature is currently being tested on select product pages for a subset of U.S. customers in the Amazon Shopping app.
What changed
Amazon says Hear the highlights already generates short audio summaries by combining product details, customer reviews, and information gathered from across the web. The new addition lets a shopper interrupt that audio summary, ask a question by voice or text, and get an immediate response from what Amazon calls its AI shopping experts before the playback resumes.
The company describes the system as an LLM-based workflow that turns catalog data, reviews, and outside information into both scripted audio clips and interactive answers. TechCrunch reported the same rollout on April 28, describing it as a conversational audio Q&A layer on top of the existing summary format.
Why it matters
The conservative takeaway is not that Amazon has built a fully autonomous shopping agent. What it has done is push generative AI one step deeper into the product page itself, moving from passive summaries to live question answering at the moment a purchase decision is being made.
That makes the update notable as a retail interface change, especially for products that require more comparison or explanation than a title, star rating, and bullet list can provide.
