Taurus Gets Cyprus MiFID License for EU Tokenized Securities Services
Taurus said its Cyprus-based subsidiary, Taurus (Europe) Ltd, has received a MiFID investment firm license from the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission, giving the Swiss digital-asset infrastructure company a regulated base for investment services across the European Union.
What Taurus announced
According to Taurus, the new authorization lets the Cyprus unit provide MiFID-regulated services tied to financial instruments, including tokenized DLT financial instruments. The company said the office in Nicosia will serve as its EU hub and, after the required notification and passporting steps, support clients across all 27 member states.
Taurus already sells custody and tokenization infrastructure to banks and other institutions. In its announcement, the company framed the new license as a way to add regulated investment services on top of that software stack rather than as a standalone crypto exchange push.
Why it matters
The detail worth watching is the scope. MiFID sits inside Europe’s traditional capital-markets framework, so the license potentially gives Taurus a clearer route into tokenized bonds, fund shares, equities, and other regulated securities products than a pure crypto registration would.
CoinDesk, citing the company, separately reported that the license will support secondary trading services for tokenized financial instruments. The conservative takeaway is that Taurus is positioning itself to serve banks that want tokenized securities infrastructure inside an established EU regulatory regime, while any broader expansion still depends on how quickly it completes passporting and wins client adoption.
