Anthropic says it has signed an agreement with SpaceX to use all of the compute capacity at the Colossus 1 data center, a move the company says will add more than 300 megawatts of capacity — or over 220,000 Nvidia GPUs — within a month.

The announcement came in an Anthropic product update focused on easing infrastructure pressure around Claude. The company said the new capacity will directly support Claude Pro and Max subscribers, and that it is already using the deal to raise limits across paid products. Effective immediately, Anthropic says it is doubling Claude Code's five-hour rate limits for Pro, Max, Team, and seat-based Enterprise plans, removing peak-hours limit reductions for Pro and Max, and increasing Claude Opus API rate limits.

Why it matters

The immediate takeaway is less about branding than supply. Anthropic has spent weeks warning users about capacity strain, especially around Claude Code and Opus usage. Locking in an entire large data center gives the company a faster near-term way to expand service levels while it waits for larger multiyear compute projects with Amazon, Google, and others to come online.

CNBC also reported that Anthropic described the deal as a first step toward possible orbital AI compute partnerships with SpaceX. That part remains exploratory. The verified change today is the terrestrial Colossus 1 agreement and the customer-facing limit increases that Anthropic says start now.
