AWS Adds Agent Payments to Bedrock with Coinbase and Stripe
AWS has launched Amazon Bedrock AgentCore payments in preview, adding a managed way for AI agents to pay for APIs, MCP servers, web content, and other paid services inside agent workflows. The company said the feature was built with Coinbase and Stripe, making it one of the clearest moves yet from a major cloud platform toward agent-native payments.
According to AWS, the first release centers on micropayments rather than general consumer checkout. The service supports the x402 payment standard at launch and lets developers connect either Coinbase CDP or Stripe-powered Privy wallets, then set session-level spending limits so agents cannot spend beyond an approved budget.
That matters because many agent use cases involve tiny, real-time purchases that do not fit normal card economics: paying fractions of a cent for a paywalled article, a market data query, or a specialized tool call. AWS says AgentCore handles the payment flow, credential lifecycle, and observability layer so developers do not have to stitch together wallet, billing, and policy controls by hand.
The conservative takeaway is not that autonomous shopping has arrived. AWS says broader merchant use cases such as travel bookings and larger purchases are for later. What is live now is narrower but still notable: a preview payment layer for cloud-hosted agents, with stablecoin-based micropayments and wallet integrations from Coinbase and Stripe available in four AWS regions.
