Vercel has added Anthropic's Claude Opus 5 to AI Gateway, making the model available through the same hosted API layer Vercel uses for provider routing, usage tracking and fallback behavior.

The update is a developer-infrastructure release rather than a new model launch by Anthropic. Vercel's changelog says Opus 5 is aimed at long-horizon agentic coding, multi-file feature work, larger refactors and end-to-end tasks. It also says reasoning is on by default, with AI SDK 7 exposing a top-level reasoning option for effort levels.

Vercel's model page lists Claude Opus 5 with provider routes from Anthropic, Amazon Bedrock and Google Vertex AI. The page shows a 1M-token context window and 128K max output across those listed routes, with the model release date on Gateway shown as July 24, 2026.

Anthropic's own model overview also lists Claude Opus 5 in its current model family and describes it as the recommended starting point for complex agentic coding and enterprise work when users are unsure which model to choose. The docs list Opus 5 alongside Claude Fable 5, Claude Mythos 5 and Claude Sonnet 5, with a 1M-token context window.

For teams already standardizing on AI Gateway, the practical change is simpler access to Anthropic's higher-end coding model without adding a separate integration path. It also gives developers a way to compare provider routes under one gateway interface.
