Ondo Reportedly Weighs Acquisition Worth Up to $500M
Ondo Finance is evaluating a possible acquisition in the $250 million to $500 million range, according to a CoinDesk report citing a person familiar with the matter.
The report says the tokenized-asset company has considered wealthtech targets, among other subsectors. Ondo has not announced a transaction, so the conservative read is that this is an active expansion option rather than a completed deal. Still, the reported size is notable for a real-world asset company whose recent strategy has centered on regulated distribution and market infrastructure.
Ondo has already shown a preference for buying regulated capabilities instead of building every piece from scratch. Its Oasis Pro acquisition gave the company an SEC-registered broker-dealer, an alternative trading system, and a transfer agent. In July, Ondo said Oasis Pro Markets had received U.S. regulatory authorizations to offer tokenized corporate equities and funds under SEC and FINRA oversight through channels including OTC retailing, underwritten primary offerings, and private placements.
That context makes a wealthtech acquisition plausible as part of a distribution push. Tokenized stocks, funds, and other real-world assets do not become useful simply because they exist onchain; issuers still need compliant access points, investor onboarding, custody relationships, and broker or adviser channels.
If Ondo moves ahead, the important question will be less the headline price than what capability it buys. A regulated distribution layer would fit the company's public direction, while a broader technology acquisition could signal a larger attempt to connect tokenized assets with existing wealth platforms.
