Robinhood Wins UK Crypto Registration
Robinhood's UK arm has been added to the Financial Conduct Authority's list of registered cryptoasset companies, giving the trading platform a clearer path to offer crypto services in Britain while the country's next rulebook approaches.
CoinDesk reported that the registration was effective as of July 31. Under the current UK framework, cryptoasset firms must register with the FCA for anti-money-laundering supervision before offering certain crypto services. That is narrower than full market authorization, but it is still a meaningful gate: the FCA list includes a limited set of approved crypto firms rather than every exchange or broker that wants UK access.
The timing matters because the UK is preparing a more comprehensive crypto regime. The next authorization process is expected to open at the end of September and close at the end of February, before the full regime comes into force in October 2027. Firms already registered under the existing framework may have completed part of the compliance work needed for the later transition, though registration does not remove the need for future approval.
For Robinhood, the approval fits a broader push beyond US retail trading. The company has been expanding its crypto footprint through Bitstamp, tokenized assets, and Robinhood Chain. UK registration does not guarantee share gains, but it gives Robinhood a regulated foothold in one of the more closely watched crypto markets as the local rules move from registration toward a fuller authorization model.
