Itaú Joins OpenAssets in Brazil Tokenization Pilot
Itaú is moving deeper into tokenized capital markets through a new collaboration with OpenAssets tied to ANBIMA's tokenization pilot in Brazil.
OpenAssets said the work will combine its digital-asset infrastructure with Itaú's market expertise inside a structured use case for the Brazilian Financial and Capital Markets Association's pilot. The pilot is focused on testing the full lifecycle of capital-market instruments on distributed ledger technology, including issuance, trading, and settlement.
The scope is deliberately practical rather than a consumer-facing product launch. According to the announcement, the collaboration will cover technical proofs of concept, tokenization architecture and standards, and an assessment of operational and compliance frameworks. The instruments named in the release include fixed-income products and investment funds.
That makes the project part of a broader institutional push to move tokenization beyond isolated demonstrations. ANBIMA's pilot brings together more than 50 financial and capital-markets organizations to test how blockchain-based workflows could apply to the issuance, trading, and management of tokenized financial assets.
The conservative read is that Itaú is not announcing a live public market for tokenized securities. It is putting a major bank's operational knowledge into a standards-oriented pilot with an infrastructure provider. If the tests are useful, the next signal will be whether those workflows can satisfy the controls required by regulated market participants, not whether the technology can mint tokens.
