Uber and Pony.ai have expanded their autonomous-vehicle partnership with plans to collaborate on more than 2,000 Pony.ai robotaxis across Europe. The companies said the rollout will build on their existing Zagreb, Croatia plan with Verne and target four additional European cities, with more details to be announced in phases.

The announcement is meaningful because it sketches a broader operating model rather than a single-city pilot. Pony.ai would supply its Level 4 autonomous driving technology, rider-experience systems, and deployment expertise. Uber would provide the booking, payment, customer-service, and rider-demand layer through its app. Local fleet partners may handle day-to-day operations such as vehicle ownership, maintenance, charging, and cleaning, depending on the market.

The companies did not name the four new cities or give a deployment timeline. They also said the expanded partnership includes plans for the Middle East, but did not provide market-level details.

TechCrunch noted that Uber has now partnered with more than 30 autonomous-vehicle companies, reflecting a strategy of making its ride-hailing network available to multiple robotaxi suppliers rather than relying on one in-house system. For Pony.ai, the deal extends its push outside China, where the company says it already operates paid, fully driverless robotaxi services in four tier-one cities.

The cautious reading is that this is still a deployment plan, not a live European fleet. But a 2,000-vehicle target gives the Uber-Pony.ai partnership a clearer commercial scale than the earlier Zagreb announcement alone.
