Google is rolling out Google Pics, an AI image creation and editing tool for Workspace users, as it pushes generative media features deeper into everyday productivity apps.

The company says Pics is built on its Nano Banana image generation and editing model. It is being made available over the coming weeks to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers, as well as most Workspace business customers. The tool is intended to work both as a standalone product and inside Workspace apps.

What it does

Google describes Pics as a way to generate images, refine existing visuals, and make targeted edits without moving work into a separate design application. The feature set includes isolating objects, applying text comments to specific image areas, making multiple edits in one pass, and modifying or translating text inside an image while preserving the surrounding design.

Workspace integration is the notable part of the announcement. Google says Pics access starts with Docs and Slides through pics.new, with Drive support planned over the coming weeks. The official demo video shows the product being used inside the Workspace flow rather than as a separate consumer image app.

Why it matters

The launch puts image generation closer to document and presentation workflows, where business users already handle brand assets, product mockups, announcements, and internal graphics. The practical test will be whether Pics can preserve layout and text reliably enough for work documents, an area where image models have often been less predictable than text assistants.
