Vercel introduced Flat Rate CDN on September 8, giving Pro teams an alternative to usage-based content delivery billing. The offering is enabled by default for new Pro teams, while existing teams can opt in through billing settings.

The change targets a familiar infrastructure problem: a temporary surge in visitors can produce a bill far larger than a site's normal traffic would suggest. Vercel says a one-day spike will not trigger a tier upgrade, and the selected tier stays fixed during the billing period.

What the tiers cover

The lowest tier, included with Pro at no additional cost, provides capacity for one million monthly CDN requests and one terabyte of data transfer. Additional CDN tiers cost $20, $100, or $300 per month, offering 10 million, 50 million, or 150 million requests respectively. Each paid tier includes 50 terabytes of transfer capacity.

Covered resources include CDN requests, Fast Data Transfer, Blob Data Transfer, and observability events generated by CDN requests. Capacity is managed at the team level rather than separately for each project.

Protection has boundaries

This is not an unlimited hosting plan. Sustained usage above capacity can lead to a higher tier in the next billing cycle; exceeding the highest tier can trigger a transition to on-demand pricing.

The documentation also excludes bulk file distribution and workloads primarily delivering large volumes of media or files. Vercel reserves the ability to move projects to Flex CDN, require another plan, or limit service under its fair-use rules.

For application teams, the practical benefit is more predictable CDN spending during temporary spikes—not a guarantee that growing traffic leaves future bills unchanged.
