Listen Labs reportedly drops Series C amid Salesforce acquisition talks
Listen Labs, a startup that uses AI to interview customers, walked away from a signed term sheet for a $125 million Series C at a $1.5 billion valuation, TechCrunch reported on September 9, citing people familiar with the matter. Menlo Ventures was expected to lead the financing, which did not close.
Separately, Business Insider reported that Salesforce had held talks to acquire Listen Labs for around $2 billion. Its sources said the discussions were not finalized and could fail. TechCrunch described the acquisition discussions as the likely reason the financing collapsed, rather than an established explanation from the companies.
Salesforce and Listen Labs did not respond to either outlet's requests for comment. Menlo Ventures also did not immediately respond to TechCrunch. The reports therefore describe an abandoned financing and possible acquisition, not a completed sale or newly raised capital.
AI interviews, not simulated customers
Listen Labs' own product description says its software drafts research questions, recruits participants, conducts AI-moderated conversations with follow-up questions, and produces deliverables including highlight reels and presentation slides. The company says its findings trace back to real interviews; it is not simply generating hypothetical customer responses.
Its website features customer case studies for Microsoft, Anthropic, and Sweetgreen. That positions the product around an existing enterprise workflow: gathering qualitative evidence about customer preferences and product decisions.
For now, the concrete development is a reported change in Listen Labs' financing path. Whether Salesforce buys the company, at what price, and how the product might fit into Salesforce's software remain unresolved.
