Lyft began matching Nashville riders with fully autonomous Waymo vehicles on September 9, adding driverless trips to its ride-hailing marketplace. The companies say Nashville is the first market where Waymo vehicles are available through both the Waymo and Lyft apps.

The launch is a working service, but not a guarantee that every eligible request will receive a robotaxi. Availability is increasing gradually, with one fleet dispatched dynamically across the two networks. TechCrunch's September 13 report independently confirms that Waymo rides have reached the Lyft app.

Where matching is available

Riders requesting Standard, Priority Pickup, Wait & Save, or Extra Comfort trips can be matched with a Waymo at no additional cost. Both ends of the route must fall within the service area, which covers Downtown/Broadway, North Nashville/Germantown, East Nashville, Midtown, and South Nashville.

Passengers can decline an autonomous match or opt out entirely. Human drivers continue serving trips inside and outside the covered area, so the rollout supplements Lyft's existing network rather than replacing it.

Fleet operations matter too

Lyft subsidiary Flexdrive is handling Waymo fleet management in Nashville. Lyft says an 80,000-square-foot purpose-built depot will open in October; that facility is still a planned operational expansion, not part of the completed launch.

The deployment gives Lyft a concrete role in commercial autonomous transport without developing the driving system itself. Its contribution spans passenger matching and on-the-ground fleet operations, while Waymo supplies the autonomous driving technology. The immediate milestone is limited but specific: eligible Nashville riders now have another way to access an existing driverless service.
