Google is testing purchases from Walmart-owned Flipkart inside Gemini and AI Mode in India, according to September 26 reporting by TechCrunch. The publication observed the experience and cited people familiar with the test.

Some users see a Buy button on selected Flipkart listings. Tapping it opens a Flipkart-branded checkout flow without leaving the AI interface. The reported selection includes smartphones, electronics and mobile accessories; other users still see ordinary listings without the purchase option.

Google’s own September marketing announcement names Flipkart among merchants partnering on agentic shopping experiences for Indian consumers. That establishes the commercial relationship, but does not independently confirm the test’s exact availability or rollout schedule.

Checkout, not a confirmed nationwide launch

Asked about the test, Google told TechCrunch that it regularly experiments with features connecting people and businesses, without providing further details. Flipkart had not responded to the publication’s request for comment.

The distinction from Google’s broader commerce infrastructure matters. Google has introduced the Universal Commerce Protocol, an open standard for agentic commerce. Its May announcement described both Google Pay checkout and transferring cart items to a retailer’s site, with the retailer remaining the merchant of record.

However, TechCrunch said it was unclear what technology powers the Flipkart test. The observed checkout should therefore not be described as a confirmed UCP deployment or an autonomous purchasing agent.

The concrete development is narrower: a limited experiment moving shoppers from AI-generated product discovery into a retailer’s transaction flow. Availability beyond the test remains unconfirmed by Google.
