Instagram announced a conversational AI assistant for its Edits video-creation app on September 30, according to TechCrunch. The described feature focuses on personalized analysis and creative advice, rather than automatically cutting or assembling videos.

Brett Westervelt, who leads Edits, said the assistant combines an account’s follows, views, video retention, likes and shares with comments, Instagram trends and audience interests. The aim is to identify performance patterns over time and suggest actions that are harder to derive from individual metrics alone.

Analysis, not automatic editing

Westervelt said creators involved in developing the tool wanted help handling analysis while retaining control over creative decisions. That distinction matters: the announced capability is an account-aware conversational layer inside a video workflow, not evidence of an autonomous system that produces finished content.

Meta’s own September announcement of its Meta One subscription supports that direction. It described the then-upcoming Edits assistant as a tool for analyzing Instagram insights and brainstorming ideas. The company also outlined an Edits Plus plan with more cloud storage for accessing projects across devices and additional assistant usage.

TechCrunch reports that assistant usage will be limited, with more available through Meta One. The cited descriptions do not establish a numerical allowance, so creators should not assume unlimited access.

For creators, the practical change is a way to interrogate account performance conversationally instead of interpreting each dashboard metric separately. Whether those recommendations improve results remains unproven by the announcement; the release describes functionality, not measured gains in reach or engagement.
