NEAR Intents Reports $3.8 Million Exploit, Pledges Full Reimbursement
NEAR Intents halted services on October 1 after a security incident that caused approximately $3.8 million in losses, according to the project's preliminary assessment. The team said affected funds would be compensated in full.
The disclosed bug involved the interaction between its Omni deposit and withdrawal infrastructure and the NEAR Intents smart contract. The team said it had patched the contract-side vulnerability, while additional work on Omni infrastructure remained underway.
NEAR Intents facilitates cross-chain swaps by letting users specify the outcome they want, with independent market makers known as solvers competing to fulfill it. The incident concerns that cross-chain infrastructure; it is not a reported compromise of the underlying NEAR Protocol blockchain.
Recovery remains staged
In its announcement, the project estimated that NEAR Intents and near.com operations would resume within an hour. Deposits and withdrawals on affected networks, including BNB Smart Chain, Polygon, TON, Optimism, Avalanche and Stellar, were expected to remain unavailable for roughly another 12 hours. Those were projected recovery windows, not confirmation that service had resumed.
The team said users holding affected-chain assets inside NEAR Intents would be able to swap them into other assets once core operations returned. That distinction separates internal trading availability from the ability to move funds onto or off affected networks.
NEAR Intents said it had notified law enforcement and was working with security and blockchain analytics partners to trace funds and pursue recovery. It promised a detailed public report in the following days. The loss estimate remains preliminary, and the compensation pledge does not establish that reimbursements have already been completed.
