Etched Reportedly Fields Funding Offers at $40 Billion or More
AI hardware startup Etched is reviewing investment offers valuing it at $40 billion or more, TechCrunch reported on October 5, citing people familiar with the company. The discussions are early, terms could change, and Etched declined to comment.
One person told the publication that incoming bids ranged from $40 billion from top-tier investors to $50 billion from lesser-known backers. These are reported offers, not a completed financing or an announced valuation. The report did not establish how much capital a new round would raise.
A bet on integrated inference hardware
Etched develops full inference systems rather than chips alone. Its own website describes co-designing processors, racks, software and manufacturing methods for the workloads that run models after training, including long-context and agentic applications.
The company identifies two architectural priorities: low-voltage computation for higher throughput and a shared, cluster-scale memory system for lower latency. Its memory design combines high-bandwidth memory and SRAM. Performance advantages remain company claims; the funding report does not provide an independent benchmark comparison.
Etched also says it has begun production to fulfill more than $1 billion in customer contracts. That figure describes contracted demand, not recognized revenue, and does not independently confirm the reported investment terms.
The offers would signal continued investor interest in alternatives to general-purpose AI accelerators. The consequential next milestones are whether financing actually closes and whether customer deployments substantiate the promised improvements in inference speed, cost and power consumption.
