Standard Chartered Bank (Singapore) announced plans on October 8 to provide custody for selected cryptoassets, stablecoins and tokenized real-world assets. The proposed service targets institutional clients and accredited-investor corporate clients, rather than retail customers.

The bank explicitly says the offering remains subject to applicable regulatory requirements. Neither its announcement nor CoinDesk's report identifies a launch date or a list of supported assets. The development is therefore a planned expansion of custody infrastructure, not confirmation that clients can already deposit tokens.

Connecting custody with asset servicing

The Singapore service would complement Standard Chartered's Financing & Securities Services business. The bank describes an intended connection between traditional asset servicing, tokenization and digital asset custody, supporting clients from safeguarding conventional assets through tokenizing and holding digital versions.

That scope is broader than cryptocurrency safekeeping alone: stablecoins and tokenized real-world assets are explicitly included in the plan. However, naming those categories does not establish support for any particular stablecoin, blockchain or tokenized security.

An additional institutional market

Standard Chartered places Singapore within a wider digital asset strategy spanning financial centers including the UAE, Luxembourg and Hong Kong. Singapore chief executive Patrick Lee said trusted infrastructure is needed for moving, safeguarding and servicing tokenized assets at institutional scale.

The concrete change is the bank's stated intention to extend that custody capability to eligible Singapore clients. Actual availability, supported instruments and the regulatory conditions for delivery remain details to watch before treating the announcement as an operational launch.
