Ambi raises $26 million for ambient AI apps that assist during meetings
Ambi, founded by former Plaud executive Peter Mo, said it has raised $26 million across multiple funding rounds, TechCrunch reported on October 12. The rounds were led by Luminous Ventures and electronics manufacturer Huaqin. The startup is releasing apps for iPhone, Mac and Apple Watch aimed at turning conversations into ongoing AI assistance.
Rather than only producing notes after a meeting, Ambi says its agent can surface relevant knowledge and suggestions while a conversation is happening. It draws on calendars, meetings, a knowledge base and web information, with tasks able to continue across devices. These are the company's stated capabilities, not independently benchmarked performance results.
Capture is optional; disclosure remains unresolved
Mo told TechCrunch that ambient capture is off by default and can be disabled at any time. Users can choose extended listening to collect context beyond individual meetings.
Ambi's website says audio is deleted after transcription, while remaining data is encrypted and stored in the United States. It also says user content is not used to train its models. Those commitments distinguish deleting recordings from deleting the information extracted from them; transcripts and other retained context still matter for privacy.
The company has not resolved how to ensure everyone nearby knows they are being recorded. Mo told TechCrunch that disclosure remains the user's responsibility.
Ambi also plans hardware with a screen, speaker, camera and microphones. That device is a future product, not part of an already demonstrated hardware rollout. The immediate development is the funded app launch and its move from retrospective meeting summaries toward assistance during conversations.
